Submerged Car Reported in Augusta Canal; Water Rescue Team Called Out

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a report of a submerged vehicle in the Augusta Canal.

The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the end of Curry Street at Division Street, according to a Tuesday night press release from Sgt. Caleb Lee.

“The Water Rescue team is on scene attempting to recover the vehicle,” Sgt. Lee said. “No further information available at this time.”

At 11 p.m. Tuesday, the submerged vehicle was recovered by the Augusta Fire Dive Team and no persons were located in the vehicle.
