School’s out, and that means summer is here.

To get into the summer spirit, Columbia County is preparing for the annual Summer Beach Blast. Janet Wheatley, programs and events manager, said there will be sand for kids to play in and music for all ages to enjoy. There will also be food and beverage vendors at the event.

“It’s always a fun event,” Wheatley said. “Always good music, good crowd, it’s good for all ages it’s in the park so the playground area is still open. Then there’s sand and you can do your little dancing by the stage, it’s always just a fun event to come out to.”

The music will be provided by The Catalinas, who will go on at 7 p.m., Wheatley said. Until that time there will be beach music in the background for guests to listen to and enjoy.

The event is free for general admission, but VIP tickets are available for purchase for $50, Wheatley said. With VIP tickets, attendees include VIP parking, access to the VIP area, which will have seating, tents, a private restroom, two beverage tickets and light hors d’oeuvres from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through a link found on Facebook or by going to columbiacountyga.gov, clicking on meetings and events and then clicking on Summer Beach Blast.

Summer Beach Blast has been taking place for several years and was started as a way to celebrate the the summer season, Wheatley said.

“It’s the beginning of summer, so it’s like the kick-off of summer,” Wheatley said. “We’re giving everybody that beachy feel, and it’s always been like beach music and we always bring in the sand just to give everybody a feel for summer time.”

Summer Beach Blast will take place Saturday, June 3 at Evans Towne Center Park from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. For updates, visit the Columbia County Parks, Recreation and Events Facebook page.
