A man wanted for murder in Virginia was arrested Friday afternoon in Augusta following a coordinated law enforcement operation.

Prince Moore, 41, sought in connection with the deadly shooting of 22-year-old Tyron R. Clanton near a Petersburg gas station, was taken into custody at approximately 3:36 p.m. at the Travelodge Hotel, located at 3039 Washington Road in Augusta.

Officials from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service executed a planned operation to apprehend Moore. During the arrest, Moore attempted to evade capture by jumping from a second-floor window but was quickly recaptured.

Due to the proximity of the incident to Westside High School, the school was placed on a precautionary soft lockdown. Authorities stressed there was no direct threat to students or staff, and the lockdown was lifted shortly after.

No injuries were reported among law enforcement officers or members of the public during the arrest.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office commended the collaborative efforts between local deputies, Task Force Officers, and the U.S. Marshals Service that resulted in the safe capture of the fugitive.

Moore was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on Sept. 29 near a BP gas station in Petersburg, Virginia. Officers responding to the scene found Clanton with gunshot wounds; he later died at a local hospital.
