An Augusta man with a history of DUI allegations and speeding was arrested early Sunday for killing a pedestrian and fleeing the scene, authorities said.
Tyquavious Walker, 26, is facing charges of DUI and two felonies, including homicide by vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. He allegedly struck and killed 62-year-old Randolf “Randy” Brinson on the 900 block of Walton Way and then fled. The victim was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The suspect was quickly arrested and remains in jail without bond. Walker’s record is filled with traffic violations for speeding as well as an arrest for fleeing police and a DUI charge from 2019 that has been pending a jury trial for three years, according to online records.
As far as the wreck, Denise Carson said online that her daughter witnessed the hit and run and called the police.
“It’s the fact that the driver kept going. And people kept driving by,” Carson said. “A child, my child was traumatize out there watching this man take his last breath. Just pray for her and the guy’s family.”
Friends and family of Brinson were mourning him Sunday on Facebook. Jessica Galle said she and her family worked together with the victim at Galle’s Seafood and ran the front counter together for 10 years.
“Absolutely outstanding man,” she wrote. “This has broken our hearts and I pray to God they punish this person to the absolute full extent.”
Here is a look at Walker’s record of speeding tickets, fleeing police, suspended licenses and drunk driving allegations:
- Oct. 13, 2014: Speeding ticket. Later dismissed.
- Nov. 27, 2014: Failure to maintain lane. He is given probation and a fine after pleading guilty.
- Dec. 7, 2014: Speeding ticket. He is given probation, fines and 40 hours of community service.
- Jan. 2, 2015: Speeding ticket. He is given probation and a fine after pleading guilty.
- April 4, 2015: Driving while license suspended. He is given probation and a fine after pleading guilty.
- Sept. 4, 2015: Driving while license suspended and marijuana possession. He is sentenced to 10 days in jail with probation and fines and ordered to attend a risk-reduction program.
- Nov. 19, 2015: Attempting to elude police, driving while license suspended and a stop sign violation. He is given 40 days in jail with probation and community service after he pleaded guilty.
- Aug. 22, 2019: Speeding ticket. He forfeits a $250 bond.
- Oct, 5, 2019: DUI, driving with an unlawful alcohol concentration and disobedience of a traffic control device. He asks for a jury trial on December 2019 and continues to wait for one.
