Symphony of Kitchens to be held March 12

It’s a home tour that draws Mary Louise Hagler in every year.

“I love the fact that people open up their homes to the public. It gives us a chance for some inspiration. You go back home with some takeaway ideas. You can’t do a complete renovation, but you can get some thoughts on décor or different ways of doing things,” said Hagler, a member of the Augusta Symphony Guild of the 12th annual Symphony of Kitchens tour scheduled for March 12.

Hagler’s own home was on the tour in 2017.

This year, there are five kitchens on the tour. Four of them are conveniently located on the same road – Park Avenue — while the fifth is not too far away on Walton Way.

Construction on two of the Park Avenue homes was finished just as the pandemic began.

The tour features a mix of homes – new construction with some older homes with kitchen makeovers.

Hagler has been volunteering to do the social media for this year’s tour and has gotten to know the homeowners.

Two of the homeowners are empty nesters who’ve pared down their collections. The ones that remain have their own stories, she said.

Some of the homes feature open floor plans so a glimpse into the kitchen also means a birds-eye view into the rest of the home. Also, patrons will see some outdoor kitchens on the tour.

Hagler said the event is a fundraiser for the guild.

“We have about 100 members. We raise money for the symphony outreach programs and sponsor the cotillion,” she said.

The tour will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 12. Homes on the tour include 3019 Park Ave., 3041 Park Ave., 3021 Park Ave., 3023 Park Ave. and  2346 Walton Way.

The cost for the tour wristband is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
