The Salvation Army of Augusta is partnering with Broad Street restaurant TacoCat for the former’s Hygiene Product Donation Drive.

The local chapter of the nonprofit launched its campaign this month, urging the community to contribute toiletries and other essential items. Throughout January, the Center of Hope, the Kroc Center and Salvation Army family stores are accepting donations of lotions, razors, soap, shampoo and the like, for clients staying at the Center of Hope shelter.

Tacocat is also a drop-off site for donations, and will also be hosting Spirit Night, a live event to promote and encourage Salvation Army Augusta’s efforts to shelter and support those in need. The night will feature live music, and 10% of the food sales will go to the Salvation Army.

“Frog Hollow Hospitality Group reached out to us because they wanted to get involved and support what the Salvation Army does for the homeless in Augusta,” said musician Joe Stevenson, who is coordinating the Spirit Night event, and will also be performing at Tacocat that evening.

A similar charitable event, complete with the 10% donation, is slated for next month at one of the Farmhaus burger restaurant downtown, Stevenson noted.

“Because we partner with a business each month to collect much needed items for the Center of Hope, we thought Tacocat and Farmhaus would be perfect to kick off 2024,” he said.  “We are excited to share the mission on Jan. 18 at Tacocat and then Feb. 8 at Farmhaus.”

Tacocat is located at 208 10th St., behind fellow Frog Hollow eatery Pho-Ramen’l, and will host its Spirit Night on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
