The Augusta Press recently donated a “Restaurant Reviewer for a Day” package to a Richmond County school fundraiser/auction, with 9-year-old Martha Matson making the winning bid. This week, Martha takes over Dine and Dish to share her review of an Augusta favorite: TakoSushi. It’s not every kid who likes sushi—but Martha shares her thoughts on why TakoSushi might just be your kid’s favorite new lunch spot.

After church one day, we went to TakoSushi, and we ate lunch outside at one of the tables on the sidewalk.
My parents have taken me to TakoSushi before, and it is the first place I ever tried sushi. My parents and big brother have always liked sushi. When I first tried it, I started with California rolls, but now I like trying lots of different sushi rolls.
I chose TakoSushi for lunch because I knew that I liked it, but I wanted to try new things there. They have a lot of different kinds of sushi that I haven’t tried.

For appetizers we got the edamame. The edamame was salty, flaky and crunchy. My mom bit into the edamame, and the juice squirted onto my dad!
We also tried the tempura asparagus. The sauce on it is sweet and tangy. The texture was like if you bit into an apple.

For my real meal, I got something called the Firecracker Roll. It is a sushi roll that was crunchy on the outside and had avocado and spicy tuna on the inside. It looks orangey from the fish roe and has sweet and spicy firecracker sauce on it.

I tried some of my dad’s nachos. They were really good. It was topped with a yummy, sweet pork.
My mom got tacos with pork belly and salmon. I don’t normally like salmon, but this was good. I usually don’t like the texture of salmon, but this had a crispy side and the other ingredients in the taco that were mixed in made for a delicious meal.
The service was pretty good, and our waitress was really nice. She gave us lots of refills on our drinks; I had water.
The cleanliness inside TakoSushi was good. Our table was wiped off really well, and the floor was clean.
A fun fact about TakoSushi is that it serves food from the Far East and the Southwest. It is a good place to go with a lot of people with different tastes because they serve burritos, tacos, sushi, salad and soup. So, there’s a little of something for everyone.
Overall, I rate TakoSushi 9.5/10 because the food is really good, the restaurant is clean, and the service is fast.
