Teen swallows Plan B pill in Martinez Walmart – without paying for it

Date: April 17, 2023

A Martinez teenager allegedly swallowed a Plan B pill at Walmart without paying for it.

Maniah Lajurnee Gilchrist, 18, was arrested April 5 for theft by taking.

Columbia County deputies were called to the Martinez Walmart, where loss prevention officers said Gilchrist took the pill from a locked case at the store. Employees said Gilchrist then entered the bathroom and ingested the pill without paying for it.

The Plan B pill is also known as the morning-after pill. It is designed to stop pregnancy after a recognized or presumed birth control malfunction, unprotected sex or sexual assault.

Employees told deputies they wanted to press charges for the stolen medication as well as two honey mustard packets Gilchrist allegedly stole from the store’s deli.

In total, Gilchrist took $48.35 worth of merchandise from the store, according to a sheriff’s report.
