Contractors with E. R. Snell will continue construction activities related to the road widening project for Fury’s Ferry Road this week in Columbia County.
Road closures this week
The intermittent, temporary lane closures will be on Fury’s Ferry Road from the intersection of Bridlewood Trail to the intersection of North Belair Road for paving operations.
Weather permitting, the scheduled activity will be 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting on Monday, Dec. 2 to Wednesday, Dec. 11. Drivers should expect delays.
According to a Columbia Country press release, it’s recommended for drivers to seek an alternate route if possible or to allow additional time for commuting.
This press release included instructions for drivers approaching work zones: “slow down; allow extra distance between vehicles; watch for advanced warning signs; obey road crew flaggers; and expect the unexpected.”
Temporary road closures have also been announced for Brandywine Drive due to paving operations. The scheduled activities will take place Friday, Dec. 6, to Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
Project details
The road widening project began in winter 2023 and is expected to be complete by fall 2026. Once complete, Evans to Locks Road to Hardy McManus Road will have four lanes with a middle turn lane and a roundabout at the Hardy McManus Road intersection.
This is a TSPLOST (Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funded project.
