Columbia County officials have announced two temporary road closures in the Evans Towne Center area ahead of this year’s Thunder Over Evans celebration.

The first closure affects Antebellum Way, which will be shut down to all traffic starting at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 16, according to a press release from Columbia County. The road will remain closed through midnight on Saturday, May 17.

A second closure will take place on Evans Town Center Boulevard, between Ronald Reagan Drive and Antebellum Way. This section will close to all through traffic beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, and will also reopen at midnight.

Despite these closures, all nearby businesses will remain accessible throughout the event.

Thunder Over Evans is a popular community event expected to draw large crowds, and these measures aim to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, according to a press release from Columbia County.

Event organizers urge drivers to stay alert, follow all traffic control devices unless otherwise directed by law enforcement, and watch closely for pedestrians, particularly children.

The road closures are intended to reduce pedestrian and vehicle conflicts as high foot traffic is anticipated in the Evans Towne Center Park area, according to a press release from Columbia County.

Pedestrians are encouraged to use marked mid-block crosswalks and designated intersections unless instructed otherwise by law enforcement personnel.
