Columbia County officials have announced two temporary road closures in the Evans Towne Center area to ensure public safety during this year’s Public Safety and Preparedness Event.

The first closure will impact Antebellum Way, which will be closed to all traffic starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, according to a press release from Columbia County.

The second closure will affect multiple roadways, including Evans Town Center Boulevard (from Ronald Reagan Drive to the exit of Evans Town Center Park), Main Street and Encore Lane. These roads will be closed to through traffic beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, and will also reopen at 2 p.m. the same day.

County officials say the closures are necessary to reduce conflicts between vehicles and pedestrians expected to attend the event. With high foot traffic anticipated in and around Evans Towne Center Park, especially during arrival and departure times, motorists are urged to remain cautious.

Drivers are reminded to follow all posted traffic control devices and to comply with any directions given by law enforcement officers. Pedestrians are encouraged to use marked crosswalks and intersections unless otherwise instructed by officers on site.
