The beginning of June kicks off and continues a host of activities in the CSRA

As June starts and schools let out, both Richmond and Columbia counties have plenty of activities on the calendar to kick off the summer, starting this weekend.

Fleet Feet Augusta continues its weekly Fun Runs on June 1. Every Thursday the fitness apparel store hosts a free walk and run for any and everyone, at any and every fitness level, starting at Your Pie Pizza, 434 Georgia Ave. in North Augusta, at 6 p.m.

Savannah Rapids Kayak Rental at Savannah Rapids Park likewise will be continuing its Guided Paddle tours to Stallings Island. Renters can meet at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, June 2, or on Saturday, June 3 for the Guided Paddle along the Savannah River. The tours rotate every weekend. Show Me Snakes, an educational event company based in Troy, Mo., will present its Show Me Reptiles Expo at the Columbia County Exhibition Center featuring various reptiles, amphibians and other exotic animals, on both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On Sunday, June 4, the Morris Museum of Art will host “Artrageous! Family Sunday: Plant and Swap Clinic,” from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Participating plant-lovers are invited to bring seedlings or cuttings to swap. A certified horticulturalist will be available to diagnose sick house and garden plants based off samples or pictures. For budding plant enthusiasts with no flora of their own to bring just yet, there’ll be coffee, lemonade and seeds to take home.

Starting Monday, June 5, the Jessye Norman School of the Arts will begin its free Creative Connections Theatre Camp. The annual fine arts summer camp will offer a “range of theatrical activities and experiences” to “foster a love for the arts and provide a nurturing environment for personal growth.”

The camp is open to children from fourth through 12th grade. The school will start activities at the Bethel Covenant Worship Center, 3958 Wrightsboro Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., every weekday from Monday through Friday, June 16.
