FACT: Over 50% of Americans drink coffee every day.

FACT: Many Americans also like an occasional nip of alcohol.

FACT: If you like coffee and alcohol, you’ve got to try the boozy coffees at Hammonds Ferry Larder.

By offering the best of two worlds—a jolt of energy and a dose of relaxation—spiked coffees are everything you need, all in one mug. Bartender Brittny Friar whipped up some of these dynamic-duo coffees, so I could tell you first hand just how indulgent they are.

Each recipe starts with a base of rich, strong coffee which she then spikes with a little sumpin sumpin.

☕ To the Grasshopper, she adds Creme de Menthe and Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka to give you a decadent minty-chocolatey experience. The chocolate vodka takes an average joe to next-level amazingness, and the Creme de Menthe is a cool and complementary sensation. (And of course, there’s that lush green color.)

☕ In the Iced Old Fashioned, you’ll find the addition of Bulleit Rye Whiskey and walnut bitters. The Old Fashioned cocktail is already a perennial wintertime favorite, so adding coffee exponentially bolsters its bragging rights. If Bulleit’s mild spice and hints of toffee are not enough beautiful sweetness, you can ask for a dose of simple syrup.

☕ In the Nutty Irishman, you’ll find Bailey’s Irish Cream, Frangelico and Jameson Whiskey. Baileys adds a sweet milkiness while Frangelico offers hints of roasted hazelnuts. The Jameson contributes buttery and oaky tones. (Irish coffee without Jameson is blasphemy.)

☕ The aforementioned Irish concoction hits just right, but the Italians are also well-versed in coffee cocktails. Larder’s Italian adds splashes of Tia Maria and Disaronno Amaretto. Tia Maria’s notes of caramel, vanilla and citrus combined with almond-flavored amaretto soothe a strong pour of black coffee. Stir in the whipped cream and you’ve got yourself something really scrummy.

☕ For a tropical tasting coffee cocktail, try the Jamaican featuring Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Licor 43 and cinnamon. The rum hints of a sweet-ish burnt palate, a perfect flavor marriage for the coffee. Licor 43 contributes myriad flavors such as vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa and orange. The creamy swirl of whipped cream makes this drink sublime.

☕ Brittny adds Van Gogh Espresso Vodka and cream to a mug of coffee to create the Russian. Like an espresso martini, it packs a jolt of energy while also lulling you into relaxation. The silky mouthfeel of the cream makes the Russian taste like a hug.

All of these delish-delish boozy coffees can be served hot or iced.

There are those who find coffee to be an essential part of a daily routine. And there are those who have similar loyalty to booze. Larder’s six spiked coffees simultaneously satisfy both desires. Which will you try?

Don’t forget to tell them nakedepicurean sent you. ????
