As the upcoming school year approaches, The Salvation Army of Augusta is teaming up with Farmhaus Burger to collect essential school supplies for local children living at The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope shelter.

The drive, which runs throughout July, aims to provide backpacks, school supplies and other essentials to children staying at The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope shelter, according to a press release from the Salvation Army of Augusta.

Each night, an average of 14 children find refuge at the Center of Hope, where they receive support from Salvation Army caseworkers and are transported to and from school in partnership with the Richmond County School System.

“Children facing homelessness already have many challenges, and ensuring they have the supplies they need for school should not be one of them,” said Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Augusta, Major Jonathan Raymer. “We are deeply grateful to Farmhaus for helping us make a tangible difference in their lives.”

Farmhaus owner Sean Wight also expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, according to a press release from the Salvation Army of Augusta.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do,” Wight said. “Partnering with The Salvation Army to support these students is an opportunity for us to give back to Augusta. We hope the community joins us in this effort.”

The Salvation Army’s mission is to meet the needs of individuals facing hardship, offering food, shelter, rehabilitation and other services.

The organization’s efforts help nearly 24 million Americans annually, and this drive will make a direct impact on local students in need, according to a press release from the Salvation Army of Augusta.

The donation drive seeks school supplies, including:

  • Backpacks
  • USB drives
  • Pencils and pens
  • Markers and crayons
  • Notebooks and folders
  • Other classroom essentials

Donations can be dropped off throughout July at Farmhaus, located at 1204 Broad St., Augusta, or at any Salvation Army location, including the Center of Hope, Family Stores, or the Kroc Center.

An online donation option is also available through the Amazon Wishlist, with items shipped directly to the shelter: bit.ly/cohwishlist.
