The Salvation Army to host grand opening of new Family Store in Columbia County

Date: June 07, 2024

The Salvation Army will be opening its latest family store, this Saturday morning, in Martinez.

The organization’s Augusta Area Command announced its plans last month to open a Family Store in the Shoppes at Petersburg shopping center along Riverwatch Parkway.

The Area Command is slated to usher in its new Family Store at 9 a.m., Saturday, with a grand opening event featuring live music and free food. The occasion will also premiere the store’s new mural, by artists A.C. Daniel and Casey Rowland, who are scheduled to attend.

The Salvation Army before now had three thrift shops in the area—one on Peach Orchard Road, another on Knox Avenue in North Augusta and another in Thomson on Harrison Road, alongside the Distribution Center, the Kroc Center and the Center of Hope. The Aiken Command oversees two stores, one on Silver Bluff Road and the other on Richland Avenue.

The new shop on Riverwatch, however, will be its first in Columbia County.

“Our Family Stores are more than just thrift stores; they are a critical component of our mission to combat homelessness in the Augusta area,” said Area Commander Major Jonathan Raymer. “When the community shops, donates, and volunteers at our Family Stores, they directly support the operations at The Center of Hope shelter. We are excited to expand our reach to the Martinez area and continue serving those in need.”

The shop will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with grand opening festivities from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new Salvation Army Family Store is located at 4099 Riverwatch Parkway, Ste. 4115.
