The week of Jan. 25 through Jan. 29 has been proclaimed Restaurant Week by the Columbia County Commission.

The event hosted by the Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau celebrates 16 local restaurants throughout the county. Each participating restaurant will have specials for guests to enjoy. Costumers have the opportunity to win a two-night glamping weekend stay from the Georgia Glamping Company by posting an image of themselves at a participating restaurant with the hashtag #columbiacountyeats on social media.

In other business, Columbia County Fire Rescue 2020 Boot Drive awarded Southeastern Firefighter Burn Foundation and Columbia County Community Connections $26,148.31to each organization.

According to the Burn Foundation of America website, the foundation provides assistance to families of burn patients being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctor Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. As well as, assisting families and patients upon discharge.

The Columbia County Community Connections organization provides after-school programs for the children of Columbia county, according to its website.

The commission honored Mark Swain as November 2020 employee of the month. Swain is a retired mail carrier who now works in the Geographic Information System for Columbia County.
