Chalk up another major milestone in the long and storied career of Thomson head basketball coach Michael Thomas.

Thomas coached his way to his 700th win Tuesday with a 73-41 win over Lumpkin County at the Thanksgiving Tourney at East Jackson High.

Thomas came into the tournament at 698 wins, and captured his 699th victory Monday night when he led his Bulldogs to an 89-44 win against Commerce Monday.

In both wins, senior point guard Jahkiaus Jones and senior Daquan Young led the team in scoring for both games with Young tallying 24 and 28 points and Jones scoring 20 and 13 respectively.

The win further cements Thomas’ place as a future hall of famer for Georgia high school basketball, and one of the top-five winningest coaches — active or otherwise — in the state.

This year marks his 41st season at the helm of the Thomson program. In that time, he’s accumulated multiple region championships and state tournament appearances, seen dozens of his athletes find careers in college and professional basketball, and back in 2022, Thomas received the honor of being named to the coaching staff for the annual McDonald’s All-American game.

The achievement triggered social media response from former Thomson players as well as several other coaches from the state.

Thomson will take its 2-0 start into the Thanksgiving holiday before coming back to host Washington County on Dec. 12.
