THOMSON, Ga. – The Thomson Bulldogs kept the Putnam County Eagles out of the end zone and won by a score of 27-3 on Friday, Oct. 21, at the Brickyard.
Both teams came into the regional matchup with a record of 6-1 and were undefeated in the region.
The Bulldogs were also celebrating their 40th year of Homecoming Friday night. Many alumni returned to the Brickyard to watch the game and celebrate.
Neither Thomson nor Putnam County scored in the first quarter as it looked to be a defensive slugfest.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with a 5-yard run by running back Jontavis Curry for a touchdown. Thomson kicker Tiler Giles converted the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 9:51 left in the second quarter.

Putnam County kicker Bryan Canales converted a 21-yard field goal with 33 seconds left in the first. This ended up being the War Eagles only score of the night.
Thomson ended its first drive of the second half with a punt, but the special teams defense forced a fumble, and the Bulldogs took over at midfield.
Bulldogs running back Anthony Jeffery extended the Bulldogs lead to 14-3 with a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:06 left in the third quarter.

The Thomson defense also forced two more turnovers in the third quarter with interceptions by defensive backs Marcellus Brigham and Dez Boyd. Both turnovers led to touchdown runs by Jeffery who scored a total of three on the night.
Putnam County’s offense was no match for the Thomson defense the Bulldogs proved to be the best team in the region.
Thomson (7-1) will go on the road to play Glenn Hills (2-6) next Oct. 28. Putnam County (6-2) will play Laney (6-1) at home Oct. 28.
