Thomson football isn’t on the field this Friday, but it’s roster just got a little bit better during the bye week.

Kennedi Bailey, a 3-star junior cornerback, took to Instagram and X to declare his arrival as the newest Bulldog, as well as his excitement to join a program with a state championship pedigree.

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound defensive back is an increasingly hot commodity on the recruiting trail, has he holds scholarship offers from the likes of Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Michigan, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh and UCONN just to name a few.

Bailey comes to Thomson from Westside and should add instant athleticism and a big-bodied presence to the Bulldogs’ secondary.

After a series of close wins and losses, Thomson defeated Swainsboro 56-7 last Thursday before taking this week off ahead of next Friday’s season opener against Laney at The Brickyard.

The win against Swainsboro was the third straight for coach Michael Youngblood’s program after dropping the first two games to Evans and North Augusta by one touchdown apiece. Both of Thomson’s wins against Richmond Academy and Grovetown were also by a single score.

Bailey comes from a Westlake squad that started the season nationally ranked by MaxPreps. His transfer comes during the meatiest part of Thomson’s schedule as it plays Laney (Sept. 27) and Burke County (Oct. 4) in consecutive weeks. The Region 4-AA race is expected to be a battle of those three schools.
