Thomson dominated Cook County 42-10 in class 2A second round playoff action to set up a quarterfinal round road game against South Atlanta next Friday.

Jontavis Curry accounted for 277 all purpose yards on only 7 touches. Curry ran back a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown that that gave Thomson a 7-3 lead with 6:16 left in the first quarter.

The second time Curry touched the ball was Thomson’s first offensive play from scrimmage. Curry lined up as a wideout and took a handoff from Jordan Lane on a reverse that Curry broke for 40 yards, setting up a 29-yard touchdown run by Anthony Jeffery on the very next play.

Having run two offensive plays, Thomson led 14-3. And neither Thomson’s offense nor its defense would let up as the Bulldogs would sprint to a 35-3 lead early in the fourth quarter in a matchup between top 10 teams.

Jah’Kiaus Jones rushed for three touchdowns, and backup quarterback Noah Storey added a touchdown toss to Jaden Moss, too.

The defense of Thomson suffocated Cook County, which didn’t reach the end zone until the fourth quarter. Jaquan Hart, Cervuntes Felts and Marcellus Brigham all made solo tackles on multiple occasions to stop drives. Brigham and Storm Hunt each snagged a sweet interception in the blowout.

The result sets up a top 5 showdown in the quarterfinal round when the No. 4 ranked Bulldogs, winners of 11 straight, will travel to No.2 South Atlanta, which sports an 11-0 record for the season.
