Thomson Shuts out Grovetown 40-0

Thomson defeated Grovetown by a score of 40-0, shutting out the warriors on Friday, Aug. 27 at Brickyard stadium.

The game started out slow with both teams going three and out on their first drives.

The Bulldogs scored first scored with a 52-yard touchdown run from quarterback Taymarion Martin. Connor Askew added the extra point to make 7-0 with 6:39 remaining in the first quarter.

Martin came back on the next drive and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Perry. Askew missed the extra point to make it 13-0 for Bulldogs.

Both teams would struggle with penalties on the next few drives and neither team would score until late in the second quarter.

Thomson went on to score late in half with an offensive fumble recovered by Martin for a 13-yard touchdown. Askew kicked the extra point, making it 20-0.

With 17 seconds left to go in the half, Thomson’s Martin scored his third touchdown of the half with a 6-yard run. Askew added the extra point to make it 27-0 at the half.

The dominating play by the Bulldogs would continue the second half. Thomson came out strong and scored on their first drive with a 49-yard run by Jordan Lane. Askew made the extra point, making it 34-0 with 10:34 remaining in the third quarter.

Thomson’s Dez Boyd scored the Bulldogs last touchdown with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Grovetown tried to get on the board late in the fourth quarter but threw an interception with less than four minutes remaining, and Thomson would hold on to the shutout and win the game 40-0.

The Bulldogs dominated in all statistical categories. The Bulldogs had 16 first downs compared to the Warriors four and 290 rushing yards against Grovetown’s 27.

Grovetown struggled to hold on to the ball on the offensive end and finished with 15 total fumbles in the game.

Thomson (2-0) will play its next game at home against Washington County next Friday, Sept. 3, and Grovetown (1-1) plays North Augusta at home also next Friday.
