The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on Feb. 10–14.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 70 earned by Kyoto Japanese Cuisine, located at 202 South Belair Road, in Martinez.
During the inspection, the inspector noted observing employees not properly changing their gloves and washing their hands between tasks, which resulted in a four point deduction.
“Observed employees change tasks and change gloves without washing hands,” the report stated.
The inspector also noted witnessing ice build up in the kitchen’s walk-in-freezer, and food being improperly stored.
“Observed significant frost/ice buildup in [walk-in-freezer] from door ajar. Ensure the [walk-in-freezer] door can close to prevent thawing,” the report stated. “Observed foods stored on the floor in dry storage area in [walk-in-cooler] and [walk-in-freezer].”
The second lowest score of the week was a score of 71 given to Hong Kong, located at 3718 Mike Padgett Highway, in Augusta.
The inspector noted observing employees storing food and drinks stored on prep tables, which resulted in a four point deduction.
“Observed employee drink and food stored on prep table,” the report stated.
The inspector also noted witnessing raw chicken and shrimp being improperly stored, which resulted in a four point reduction.
“Observed raw shrimp and chicken on the same shelf and stored over a bowl of cream cheese,” the report stated. “Raw foods should never be stored over ready to eat food.”
The restaurant was also docked four points for seeing clean dishes with food debris.
“Observed clean dishes with food debris on them ,” the report stated. “There should be no food debris on the clean dishes.”
Following the Hong Kong inspection, the third lowest score of the week was a 78 given to Formosa II, located at 3830 Washington Road, Suite A, in Martinez.
Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported observing employees not wash their hands, which resulted in a nine point reduction.
“Observed employees not wash hands and put on/change gloves,” the report stated.
The inspector also noticed frozen foods uncovered and food containers unlabeled, and deducted a total of seven points from the facility’s score.
“Observed frozen foods in chest and walk-in uncovered,” the report stated. “Observed salt, msg, sugar, and flour containers all unlabeled.”
The inspector also noted multiple pieces of “old equipment” and walls in disrepair, in addition to several unclean surfaces, docking another two points.
