The owner of a parcel of land in Evans originally zoned for a funeral home is now opting to develop a small extension of the Highland Lakes neighborhood.
Aaron Sullivan Jr. has requested to update the planned unit development (PUD) zoning at his three-acre property at 2571 William Few Pkwy. to make way for three single-family residential home lots.
The property was originally the site of Magnolia Gardens Memorial Park, Sullivan’s cemetery project initially proposed in 1994, and the company listed as owning the property has this namesake. In 2018, the county rezoned to PUD some 350 acres along William Few Parkway for Sullivan’s development of the Highland Lakes subdivision, along with a daycare and a funeral home.
The plan for the subject parcel of Sullivan’s current request, as “the funeral home use is not compatible with surrounding uses” because of the “elimination of the proposed cemetery on the adjacent property” according to his letter of intent accompanying the rezoning request, is to split the parcel into three one-acre lots with roughly 116 feet of frontage, 10-foot side setbacks and 25-foot rear setbacks.
The Columbia County Planning Commission is slated to consider the request during its meeting on March 20.
