Filming on a thriller began June 5 in Augusta.

“I knew who I wanted to do this. I wanted the best local actors,” said Amy Bailey, who co-wrote and is producing the film called “Applewood.”

It’s the second film that Bailey, who also owns Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar, has been part of. She produced “Encounter” with Luke Hemsworth in 2018.

The film centers on Kaitlynn Harris, played by Kate Dailey, a young widow who has a unique gift. She’s renovating an older home in hopes of opening a bed and breakfast. While most people think the house is haunted, it’s just holding its own secret and the key to a 130-year-old mystery.

Bailey said filming will be underway for the month of June in various locations around town including one of the Rhinehart’s locations, a historic home, an area church and an antique shop.

Rob Hollocks is the film’s other co-writer and director, who worked with Bailey on “Encounter.” Hollocks spent 13 years with Paramount as vice president of international marketing and creative.

Most of the talent and film crew are local, Bailey said.

According to Jennifer Bowen, film liaison with Film Augusta, it’s always good to have local projects shot right here in the Garden City.

“It grows the experience base and is an asset to draw in more productions to Augusta,” according to Bowen.

Bailey said she doesn’t have any additional information as far as the film’s eventual distribution. She’s focused on getting it shot.

“It’s been such a tornado,” she said.
