Tiger Woods is recovering from multiple procedures on his legs and feet following a one-car crash in California earlier this week. Woods’ car crossed over the center line and careened off the highway into brush lining the side of the road.

“Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopaedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center,” said Anish Mahajan in a statement from Tiger Woods’ Twitter account. Mahajan is chief medical officer at Harbor-UCLA.

“Communited open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia,” Mahajan continued in the statement. Screws and pins were also placed in Woods’ foot and ankle.

At the time of the statement, Woods was reportedly awake, responsive, and recovering.

To this point, there is no determined cause of the crash. There were no skid marks or braking according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villaneuva.

Woods handed the Genesis Invitational trophy to California-native Max Homa just days before the accident, and was slated to film content for Golf Digest and Discovery Channel Tuesday, but never showed up due to the accident.

Fred Ridley, chairman at Augusta National Golf Club, tweeted out a brief statement expressing the concern and prayers from the golf club where Tiger has won five of his 15 majors, most recently in 2019.

There was speculation around Tiger’s availability in Augusta this April following yet another back surgery earlier this year, but those are out the window now as the superstar will be focusing on regaining stability following the crash.
