Growler shop Tip Top Taps has closed after 10 years in business, two of them spent in downtown Augusta.

A post on the shop’s Facebook page last week announcing the closing reads, “This has been an incredibly tough decision, and one we didn’t make lightly. We’re so grateful for the memories made, the friendships formed, and every story shared over a cold mug of beer. You’ve made this place more than just a taproom you made it a community.”

Owner Marty Koger says that amid the lease at the Broad Street space expiring, and him turning 70 this year, he decided the time was right to retire and spend more time with his wife. The space will up be up for sale, with all of Koger’s improvements in tow.

“Surely somebody is going to want this space, because it’s a perfect location,” he said. “It’s a beautiful space. I really decked it out nicely, and it’s something that I was always proud of.”

Koger opened Tip Top Taps on Broad Street next to New Moon Café just after Thanksgiving in 2023, offering an array of craft beers for customers to shop or enjoy at the bar. Before that, store ran for seven years at one of Evans’ busiest intersections.

“I think that’s pretty good for a business,” Koger said. “It was a lot of fun being a part of the beer culture and bringing really fun craft beers to town.”
