In the spirit of giving this holiday season, Evans General Contractors, GF Casting Solutions and Aurubis Richmond have teamed up to donate Christmas toys to households in Augusta.

Evans General Contractors (EGS), a construction management firm with an Atlanta branch, was inspired to bring this toy drive to Augusta after pulling off a similar event in Rincon, Ga. EGS is currently doing contracting work for GF Casting Solutions as well as Aurubis Richmond.

The Augusta Fire Department had a hand in the event, serving as the toy drop off point on Monday afternoon. Around Dec. 17, firefighters with the department will make rounds delivering these toys to a list of in-need families that have been identified.

A spirit of giving

According to Bo Jackson, senior superintendent for the GF Casting and Aurubis Richmond sites with Evans General Contractors, his team was able to purchase 19 shopping carts full of brand new toys for the drive.

“We like to give back to the people that help us,” he said.

Victoria Biascoechea, HR director with GF Casting Solutions, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative.

“Augusta has gone through a lot, especially with Hurricane Helene,” she said. “When we’re able to find a way to give back and help those who need help, we’re all in.”

A truck bed full of bikes and other toys was dropped off at the Augusta Press on Monday afternoon.

Chiquita Richardson, public information officer for the Augusta Fire Department, said she believes the delivery of these toys will spark excitement for the holidays even in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“These families are ready, the children are ready, they’re excited, and they have hope for Christmas,” said Richardson. “It brings us back together. It brings families back together, even after the storm. It’s another holiday that we can celebrate as one.”

The registration for the toy distribution list is currently closed.
