An Academy of Richmond County student remained in jail Saturday, four days after his arrest for allegedly threatening a classmate.
Lamartrez Tyriq Green, 18, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with terroristic threats and acts. According to authorities, Green told a 16-year-old male classmate, “Don’t make me shoot up your house again.” The remark was overheard by a teacher and immediately reported to school administrators, who intervened.
Green remained at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center on Saturday, unable to meet the requirements of a $16,700 bond.
In a letter to parents, Principal Dr. Travis Wiggins urged families to speak with their children about appropriate behavior and the seriousness of such statements at school.
The incident was one of several safety-related reports across Richmond County schools this week.
At Wheeless Elementary School on Tuesday, a student brought a toy gun in a backpack. The teacher discovered and confiscated the toy, Principal Carl Robinson III said in a message to parents. “While it may seem these are harmless toys, they are distracting in a school setting,” he wrote.
At Butler High School on Thursday, a bullet was found on the floor of a classroom. Out of an abundance of caution, Richmond County School System Police searched all students in the room, though no weapon was found. “RCSS Police remained vigilant for the remainder of the school day, and we continued learning without incident,” Principal Dr. Valerie Squire-Kelly said.
Also on Thursday, at Belair Middle School, a student claimed during class that they had a weapon. Administrators searched the student and confirmed they did not possess any weapon, according to Principal Rischa Sturgis.
