Traffic fatality on Deans Bridge Road claims one life

The Richmond County Coroner’s Office reported a fatal traffic accident on Deans Bridge Road late Wednesday afternoon.

The head-on collision involved two vehicles and occurred in the 3400 block around 6 p.m., Coroner Mark Bowen said.

One driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death. The second driver and several passengers were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition, Bowen said.

The coroner identified the deceased driver as 80-year-old Dorothy Morrow of Rollingwood Drive in Augusta. She was pronounced dead at 6:42 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
