The new traffic light at Columbia Road at South Old Belair Road is preparing to go operational next week.

On Monday, May 1 the light will enter flash mode, according to a news release from Columbia County. Once the light is operational, drivers will see yellow flashing signal heads on Columbia Road, while on South Old Belair Road there will be a red flashing signal.

“Flashing yellow means proceed with caution through the intersection for Columbia Road travelers and red indicates stop for the South Old Belair Road approach. These rules apply until the signal is fully operational,” according to the news release.

The intersection is expected to enter full stop-and-go mode on Thursday, May 4, weather permitting, according to the news release. There will be message boards to alert those traveling on the road about the changes.
