Trending with Mike: It’s all over the floor!

A rug might be where you start as you begin a design project and everything, from a focal point can radiate outward!

Pattern and color can help you create the theme you are going for in a room. As more modern design elements have become popular, rugs can also be found to fit the look. Of course, we will always have traditional rugs for the more conservative design.

Also, don’t underestimate a rug shape. You can find a rag rug in oval sizes. I love using a round rug in certain spaces.

If a round dining table is used, it works great on a round rug. I also like using a round rug in a lounge area where four swivel chairs with a round coffee table are being used. Rounds and ovals really pop in a room full of square and rectangular features such as walls, windows, doors and Mouldings.

Then there are man-made fiber rugs. These rugs are less expensive, easier to keep clean and are offered in a myriad of patterns, colors and sizes. They tend to have a thinner pile. This is better for high traffic areas and won’t create as much of a trip hazard.

Another rug type that has become popular for my clients are vinyl rugs. These are great for those breakfast areas. As spills can happen where you dine, a vinyl rug can be cleaned by simply wiping them with a cloth. And considering there is zero nap, you won’t trip on the rug as you walk around the table.

These vinyl rugs are offered in thousands of patterns, colors and sizes! They are even customizable.
