Bedroom decor takes a lot of time to consider. The bedroom is one of the few rooms in the home that is truly personal.
House guests rarely enter this space, and the homeowner wants this room to be most comfortable in this room, where they relax and sleep.
One common issue in decorating bedrooms is the battle of the sexes.

Women tend to like a more feminine setting, while the men like a more masculine feel. I love to help negotiate these design ideas! I try to use very little florals when I have to mediate.
I might recommend a suggestive floral, maybe an abstract pattern that could read floral, but is also transitional enough to appear as a more generic landscape.
Green is a color of nature and can appeal to both men and women and it can be paired with many other color options.

After the pattern and color selections are made it is important to consider layering your bedding and building a room that has depth and an inviting design.
Ground your bed with a window treatment should your bed be set between two windows. If no windows, consider adding art or mirrors over your nightstands. This will give you good height and “frame” your bed.
You can also ground your bed with art hanging above the headboard.
Select a proper lamp that will make a statement. Small or short lamps are out of proportion next to a Queen or King size bed. Select a lamp that pulls from a color of your theme fabric, art or rug. Make it pop!
The most important design detail I can offer is layer the bedding. Don’t lay a patterned bed cover over the complete bed and then add some pillows. This is boring and gives no sense of depth and is not inviting.

Consider a solid bedcover like a matelassé (quilted) coverlet or a solid duvet cover that may have some texture. These items can easily be laundered. You can take a patterned quilt, a comforter or a bed scarf (leg warmer) and fold at the foot of the bed.
When thinking of pillows, place your sleeping pillows against the headboard, add some 27” x 27” euro shams. These pillows will conceal your sleeping pillows and will be a nice cushion should you wish to relax against the otherwise hard headboard. I always use a thicker upholstery fabric for those pillows.
Then you may want to consider decorative pillows. This all depends on how many pillows you care to use. I generally like to add two shams and then one decorative pillow in front of those. This decorative pillow can be square, rectangular or a roll.
Take a look at the before and after pictures. You can see how using my advice can add depth and a much more comfortable and inviting space!
