Seating is one of the most important design details. Aesthetics is a high priority when furnishing any space, but practicality is just as important. Anywhere we tend to relax in every room in our home is where we need to consider seating arrangements.

Do you need to sit quickly to put your shoes on in the bedroom? It is always nice to have a chair in the bedroom. It can help fill a space while giving you a place to sit quickly. It can also double as a place to sit to watch TV.

A nearby chair can also be a landing space for the pillows on the bed when you want to sleep as opposed to throwing them on the floor.

Would you like to consider a place where you could lay back and relax a little?  Maybe read a book? A chaise could work better in the bedroom if space allows.

Will there be a gathering of people that need to sit together? In a multi-function room, a grouping could be a great place to have snacks with friend, play a card or board game or maybe even work a puzzle. The chairs could be a swivel type so that other tasks, such as watching TV can be easily accomplished. Then you won’t have to move the chairs around the room.

Maybe your guests need to all face one direction such as watching TV? This is where larger seating, such as a sofa or sectional will work best. Considering all of the options and sizes that can be ordered, a custom design can be placed to fill your space as best as possible.

Recliners are still very popular. Motorization and wall hugging options help in small tight spaces and allows you to add that “dad chair” much easier than the older bulkier type.

Even seating in dining situations have come a long way. No longer are we simply adding the same chair around the table. We consider more substantial host and hostess chairs at the head of the table. There are a variety of benches that give a little flair. As some homes dining tables double as a game or puzzle working space, the seating is sometimes less decorative and more of a task style.

Even reception seating in a commercial setting has changed. As a designer I have to consider issues at a commercial setting such as bariatric or the elderly. Seating might have to be larger or firmer. And the fabric might need to be easily cleaned like a vinyl or leather.

Seating is such a very important detail in every home or office and after considering the task of the space, the options, style and fabrics make it one of the most fun parts to consider!
