The holidays are upon us and as the happy season is on its way, many will be entertaining family and friends from near and far. Growing up, I was always excited to help decorate my family home with seasonal decor.

Every year my parents kept me well stocked in scotch tape and hot glue!

I am featured regularly on both The Jennie Show and The Dish on WJBF where I offer design and craft advice. In case you missed my segment last week on the Jennie Show, I thought I would share the super fun Fall craft decor that I created.

Much of it can be a fun family friendly activity, so while the kids are home from school, maybe they might like to add their flair to the projects!

First, I got my can of spray paint out and I painted pumpkins in a metallic gold. Paired with white porcelain service ware and some beige colored silk leaf sprays, it creates a very elegant table scape.

Add some white gourds that you can tape off and paint in sections for a more layered look! Even let some of the white gourds, and white pumpkins (if you can find them), so you have layers of neutrality on the table.

One thing I really like about this time of the year are the autumnal colors!

The bright yellows and oranges can really pop! And what happy colors they are! I found some dried flower stems and I cut the flower from the end and hot glued them all over a pumpkin.

On another pumpkin, I created a spiral pattern with the flowers for little variety. If you can’t find dried flowers, you can use silk. You might also consider adding green moss onto the pumpkin first and use less flowers.

Maybe even consider glueing on some of the leaves from the silk floral stems!

Next up is a fantastic layered candle holder. We all have clear glass containers.

You could always pick one up at your craft or thrift store. Add in layers of colors seeds, grains, popcorn, rice or beans and layer these evenly and in coordinating colors so that the layers contrast nicely. Place a pillar candle in the middle, then add some jute around the glass, tie a bow, and you have a lovely and interesting candle scape for your table!

The last is a similar project, but instead of a candle, consider adding silk flowers (especially fall themed floral) into the container.

One word of advice I always give is to have fun and don’t think too hard. Make sure to cut the stems no matter what sort of arrangement you are making. Some heavy-duty wire cutters will be a lot easier to use than scissors. Consider layering your flowers instead of casually grouping them into the container.

Remember….have fun and don’t overthink anything. Your seasonal decor should be fun.

Having something homemade can add such a better setting. It is the same as having a homemade pumpkin pie as opposed to a store-bought pie. It gives you a sense of pride and your guests will appreciate the effort!
