Sometimes in design I am all about going big or go home!

A rounded out space needs that large statement piece to make a WOW moment. Sometimes you need it on a wall to draw your eye into a room and welcome you into the space. Sometimes it is needed to balance the weight of an accompanying large piece. And sometimes I prefer something large just to fill up a space instead of a collection of items.

I would like to talk about artwork this week. Using large artwork in design is an impactful way to elevate a space from ordinary to extraordinary. Bold, oversized pieces draw attention, establish the mood, and serve as striking focal points! I tend to shop for oversized art for my store as I feel so many design and furniture stores go for the smaller statement pieces where art is concerned.

As I have discussed before, art can assist with adding or sometimes creating the theme in the room. Maybe the subject matter of the art creates the theme, or maybe it is the color scheme.

Understated and serene, this landscape artwork displays a soft color palette that beautifully accents an array of designs. The print is accentuated by a white linen liner and a pine wood frame finished in a dark espresso stain with rich wood grain texture. It measures 42 x 42. Photo by Mike Siewert.
This canvas features a dynamic burst of rainbow hues that invigorate and inspire. This striking piece is surrounded by a solid wood gallery frame with gold finish. It measures 44 x 44. Photo by Mike Siewert.
This is one of my favorites. It features a stylized field of gold, tan, and olive with a sky of blue and accented by clouds of white. A solid wood gallery frame with gold finish completes the artwork. It measures 42 x 52.  Photo by Mike Siewert.

I do a lot of work in Aiken. And Aiken is known for horses. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “the eyes indicate the antiquity of the soul.” As one part of a striking equine story, this artwork showcases an exclusive black and white portrait with layered white matting under glass and a simple satin black frame. It measures 46 x 34.

Sometimes a large piece of art can be expensive, especially if you want it to be framed. The frame alone can break the bank! Consider just a canvas on the wall. You will still have your focal piece. Maybe paint the wall the art is hanging on to act as a “frame” for the piece or maybe just to ground the art.
