Trending with Signature Mike: Bling it out!

Sometimes it is nice to take something we have around the house and bougie it up a little!

Whether it is something we see and use every day, or an element in a guest room to pamper your family and friends, it can be fun to look around and add a little something extra. And if you don’t have something to bling out, take a walk around your local gift or decor store and get inspired.

Let’s take some simple jars and give them a little more personality. Some jars have screw lids and maybe even something as simple as a canning jar can make for a unique conversation piece or just practical item in the home. I like to work with jars that have lids that pull off and on.

First you want to screw a hole in the center of the lid, as shown below.

Next, you want to paint the lid. I tend to use a spray paint and mist the lid until I get just the right depth of color.

It is really fun to look art spray paints these days at your hardware or hobby store to let your imagination soar. There are so many colors to choose from and I really like the more pearlescent finishes for projects like this.

Also, consider the decor and color scheme in a room and coordinate your paint color.

If you are grouping jars together, you might even consider painting the jars in different colors. This may pull your color palette together even better than just one color.

Now we want to add a decorative knobs to the lid. Again, I love to peruse the cabinet hardware section of a hobby store. They offer such a variety of themes and colors.

You can use these knobs for your kitchen cabinets, bedroom dresser, or just about furniture piece that requires such hardware to give your item a little more pizazz.

The stems are usually long enough to accommodate a variety of thicknesses. You then simply screw on the washer and nut and tighten.

Below, I am filling these two jars with Q-tips and cotton balls.

Sitting on a tray in my guest bathroom, along with some paper hand towels, makes a super fun presentation for my guests!
