One element I love to bring into the mix of home decor are organic features. This can be achieved in almost every aspect of furniture, including rugs, lamps, art and accessories. I will share some products, as well as images from a recent job I designed, furnished and installed.
Let’s begin with the base of almost every room, the floor. The most common and most natural element is a wood floor. Red and white oak are the most popular. This hard wood can be stained in a variety of colors. The grain of the wood add to the charm and character of the floor. Softer woods, such as pine are popular as well, but they don’t wear as well as the harder woods.
You can layer a rug on these wood floors in an organic way. Jute and other natural fiber rugs have been around forever and are making a comeback. The woven fibers create a warmth that is sometime hard to recreate with synthetic rugs.

Upholstered furniture can be covered with natural cotton and linen. The character of these natural fiber fabrics can sometimes have slubs and puckers that add to the character of your furniture. A textural hide can add a lot of natural character to a chair. Take a look at these dining chairs whose hide backs, leather fronts and linen seats scream “organic”!

The chandelier, in its simple metal frame form is accented by textured glass discs that add to the organic theme of the home. Clean, natural linen drapery panels complete the look.
A centerpiece on a table can become a focal point. Therefore, it is sometimes important for this element to carry on, or even begin, the theme of your space. This extra large moss ball is accentuated with a twisted natural wood vine. The artwork brings the outdoors in in its theme and coloring. Focal points are often begun by the wall art, as a visual on a wall can often be the first decor element that your eye is drawn to.

Natural stone on a fireplace wall or other accent wall can give such great texture and warmth to a room.

You will notice in this image I added natural and textural art, Mother Of Pearl shells, that add to the organic feel of this space. The horse head, made from driftwood, continue this natural element theme. The textural mercury glass chandelier completes this look as it twinkles from above.
Again, natural hides, (sourced respectfully), adds great texture to these barstools. The chandelier in the kitchen works really well in its shape, allowing head room in the space, but adding much organic detail in its branch design.

A “suggestion” of organic can come in the form of a lamp or decorative accessories in your home.

Organic elements can work in a traditional or contemporary setting. When you want to add warmth and character to your home, always consider bringing in some natural pieces. It not only looks great, but it is also sustainable and eco-friendly!
