Here is a recent project I worked on with a client that calls on me when she has a design project.
This guest room, not being a priority, was put on the back burner…as many secondary rooms sometimes do. These types of rooms usually end up with the leftovers from other rooms as we replace pieces in those rooms. Sometimes these rooms become a hodge-podge of things that don’t really work well together and that usually doesn’t have a lot of character.
My client wanted this room to make a statement and make her guests feel comfortable and important.
Let’s take a look at what she had to work with. The headboard had great texture, and being of a neutral fabric, allowed me to do whatever I needed to do as far as bedding was concerned. The existing pillows created no pop and needed to be replaced. The size of the pillows looked like a pillow that belonged on a sofa or a chair. I also liked the large blue lamps and the side tables. The blue in the lamps was my inspiration. We had to work with blue.

My client and I decided to begin by finding a theme fabric for some pillows. We came upon a really fun fabric that had tigers printed on it. And it had blue in it! This pattern spoke to my client. As one of the tigers seemed to leap from the cloth, I recommended we place this pattern on a large bolder type pillow and have the tiger coming over the top. We found a co-ordinating animal print fabric for three euro pillows to rest behind and ground this larger roll pillow.

I recommended we place mirrors behind each nightstand because we needed to create some height in the room. As the headboard was horizontally shaped, I found some arched mirrors that added height and interest on an otherwise boring wall. As you enter the room, these mirrors add a nice depth into the space.

I needed to find a large piece of art for one wall. My client liked abstract patterns, and I found a great co-ordinating modern art piece that had just the colors we needed.

The last detail was the window. My client had added a window blind, but the single window needed to make a bigger statement. In adding a pair of panels that mostly rest on the wall, this treatment frames the window nicely and give good height and width. We decided to go with a clean, linen fabric but add an extra wide decorative drapery tape on the leading edge.

In layering a throw and a tray on the bed, this invites the guest into a very well appointed and attractive room.
