Growing up the colors of Christmas decor was red and green. I know there are still some traditionalists like me, but many have begun decorating through the holidays with decor that matches the color scheme in the room. I see so many beautiful colors of Christmas at the stores! So many options for those who want to co-ordinate everything since the red and green might contrast too much for some. Let’s discuss a few things you can do to make the transition easy and that blends into your everyday living.
Artwork on the wall is one design element that really makes a statement and sometimes it is difficult to work around when adding your seasonal items. Why not take some wrapping paper and ribbon and turn your art into a package on the wall? I guarantee your guests will be thrilled and maybe even amused. You can select a color palette that works well with your decor.

Swapping out pillows on the sofa or bed is always an easy task. If your upholstery or bedding is neutral, it becomes an easy task to add colorful pillows and blankets or throws. Find pillows that co-ordinate with your rooms color theme.
Place colorful ornaments into a bowl or glass vessel. Select ornaments that pull color from your existing room palette. This arrangement can be used on any surface, such as the dining table, coffee table, bookshelf or console. I have some antique ornaments that were handed down and I am always scared they might fall off of the tree. Placing them in a container puts my mind at ease and I can reflect on Christmases long past.

I like to wrap fabric around the base of my tree. I like it nice and full. A traditional tree skirt is too flat for me. I like to ground my tree with fluffy layers of fabric that I had left over from my draperies. It couldn’t co-ordinate any better! If in a dining room, consider purchasing an extra table cloth so that your tree skirt is the same as your table covering. I have even made draperies out of a table cloth to get a simplified and monochromatic look in the past.
Add color ribbons that compliment your rooms color scheme and add them to your swagged green garlands. Make bows to rest on a bookshelf or coffee table. Consider tie-ing ribbons and bows in unpredictable places to add color and to unify your theme.

Whatever you decide, don’t tale it too seriously. I see many people at the craft stores stressing out on their decisions. Find a color theme and have some fun with it!
