Where did the summer go? Days full of sun and fun are now just memories. The holidays are staring us in the face. This means family may be visiting for gatherings in your home. Are you prepared or will you be scrambling at the last minute to entertain your guests?

You still have time to make your life a little easier when the time comes!

I have many clients who have a formal living room that is not being used. The room is filled with leftover furniture from other rooms that got replaced with more comfortable or refreshed pieces. These living rooms can be easily updated to handle a variety of purposes. One of those being to hold extra diners.

I love adding an area in a home that includes four swivel chairs and a central table. The table height works best if it is taller than a coffee table. Twenty to twenty four inches works really well. This can accommodate a variety of functions. I have discussed this before. Children can do their homework at these settings. I have an area in my home where I can work puzzles or play a card game with friends. But this can also work well when dining. It can have the feel of a boutique hotel lobby.

I grew up sitting at the kiddie table at the holidays. It was a temporary table that had to be set up. I was the oldest at the table, and I hated it. In updating to a swivel chair scenario, the younger guests can feel a little more grown up and special and not just shoved away from the grown ups.

Maybe you have a large island where you can sit some extra guests. Do you have comfortable stools? Are they they appropriate seat height?  I find many people have a 42 inch BAR HEIGHT counter yet they are using a COUNTER HEIGHT stool meant for a 36 inch counter. Or vice-versa.

With the proper place settings, and a comfortable stool, your guests won’t feel like an after thought.

Maybe you could change out your dining room table to one that can expand to fit more people. There are many tables that offer a variety of extensions. Some table have a leaf that self stores in the middle and pivots up when the ends are pulled out. Some leafs are added to the ends and some leafs are more of the old fashioned type that can be added to the center.

If your table won’t fit in the room if left squared with the walls, consider angling your table in the room to accommodate the larger size.

I order furniture for my clients every day. It can take a few weeks to get the furniture pulled and shipped to me. And then I have to co-ordinate delivery. With that said, NOW is the perfect time to take care of any of your furniture needs!
