Ever since the Covid pandemic, people have been creating more intimate spaces in their homes now that they are spending more time at home, even working sans an office to drive to.
One important element that not only lights up the space, but also can give some great personality and theming is a hanging light fixture. Many times, after purchasing seating and wall decor, there is no money left for lighting. Let me show you a fun an inexpensive option.
You may actually have a shop light at your home. If not, you can purchase one inexpensively at a hardware store.

Remove the clip by unscrewing the nut that holds it onto the light.
Now for the fun part! Consider the theme of your space. What do you want the space to “say”?
Let’s say you have a planting area or garden theme you want to create. Find a plastic pot that resembles a clay pot. Using a 1-3/8 boring drill bit, drill a hole in the middle of the bottom of the container.

Unscrew the silver bulb protector from the shop light. Insert the corded bulb holder into the container and screw the bulb protector from the inside. This will keep the light mechanism secure within the container.

Hang a hook from your ceiling, add a lightbulb and there you have a fun light! Consider adding more than one fixture, placing them at different heights for a really fun look. Don’t use too bright of a bulb that will get too hot.

Think outside the box. Look around at your home decor stores and try and find a unique container. Maybe a basket with playful ridges along the bottom that will catch the light.

If you want a more industrial look, consider a metal pail bucket.
With lighting like this, there is no need to hire an electrician to run wiring, a switch and a ceiling connector. You might want to wrap your exposed cord(s) with fabric or other options on the market intended to cover cords.
