Well, the premier of my new weekly TV show, The Signature Mike Show, was Sept. 21!
Wow! Such a tremendous moment for me! There was a watch party held the night before at the Bordeaux Event Center in Thomson, and it gave me goose bumps to hear applause after each segment! The show is now on my YouTube Channel, (Signature Mike), if you care to watch. PLEASE subscribe to catch future shows if you can’t watch, as it airs every Saturday night at 7:30 on channel 12, CBS.
The one segment that has been the most popular was a DIY piece where I show people how to make antique mirror. I love adding this aged, smoky looking mirror in my designs. It isn’t as stark and shiny as a clear mirror and I love the texture it adds while also giving some reflection and depth to a space. Sometimes I simply purchase an antique mirror item and place it into my designs, but sometimes I am able to make it myself and save my client some money!
I have added antique mirror to the back of a bookshelf. If you take the shelves out and make one large mirror that fits onto the back wall of the space. The shelves, once replaced, can hold the mirror in place.

I have sometimes added antique mirror onto a sideboard or cabinet, if the piece has clear glass and my client would like to keep glass, but they don’t want the cabinets contents to show, antique mirror is a great option!

Here is a quick and easy way to make antique mirror. Begin with a clear piece of glass. Spray equal parts of distilled white vinegar and water on the glass. Just mist it….not too much.

While the water/vinegar spray is still wet, spray some looking glass spray over the wet side and let dry overnight.

Spray a spray adhesive onto the side of what you have already sprayed and place black construction paper onto the glass. This will help protect what you have sprayed and also add depth to the glass on the other side where the mirror spray reacted to the vinegar. Sometimes you need to add several pieces of black paper should your glass be large.

Viola! Antique mirror!
