Trending with Signature Mike: Spring forward!

Goodbye to winter! We may have to suffer through another one or two quick cold spells, but spring is in the air! I am looking forward to seeing green grass, vines and foliage cover and replace the remnants left from that hurricane.

It is time for us to get outdoors and enjoy the moderate weather before the heat and humidity settle in, so I thought this week I would share some fun products that can enhance your outdoor living areas.

Let’s start with the bugs. Mosquitos can be a big pain, especially for the better tasting targets! Citronella works well, but classic citronella can be a little pungent. I found this terrific product that is Citronella, but it is scented with Pineapple! It takes the edge off of the original and it comes in a variety of attractive vessels.

They even come in votive size that you can sit around and create a perimeter, or share with your friends!

Any of these items would make great gifts, too!

If pineapple doesn’t appeal to you, take a look at these long incense sticks that you can stick into your lawn or potted plant. They come in scents of sea salt and lavender!

If the bugs find you especially tasty, there are citronella body sprays in scents of lavender or verbena!

Again, these could make a great gift!

You know I love to add some greenery in every room of my designs. It adds a special freshness and pop of a neutral green. However, if you are like me, I just cannot keep a live plant alive. I even struggle with outdoor plants! But you don’t have to! I am not a big fan of the silk type plants. Many of them just don’t look real. To me, they scream fake and cheap.

However, when it comes to outdoor plants, a succulent type can be perfect! And many of them look so real. I actually always thought a live succulent looked a little fake. So I love using succulents outdoors. They are usually easy to hose off and come in such a variety of sizes.

This next product is so versatile. I use it indoors, but this company also makes the product for outdoor use. It is a lattice type product that comes in a variety of patterns and sizes. It comes in black or white. It can be used along the base of a deck or used as a partition wall or fence insert.

It is fun to design with, is low maintenance and a great design detail.

Poly furniture has come a long way. There are so many colors to choose from and so many different types of seating and tables. It is easy to hose off, especially during the high pollen months.

Performance fabrics are abundant. Just as you design with fabrics indoors, there are so many options for outdoor fabrics. Whether you are selecting fabric for cushions, pillows or drapery panels, the selections are endless!

So what are you waiting for? ”Spring” into action and have some fun with your outdoor living spaces!
