Last week I was hired to speak at the Sacred Hearts Garden Festival.
Usually there are many garden tours this time of year, but considering that Hurricane Helene damaged so many properties and gardens, this years offerings were all held at the Sacred Heart Cultural Center on Greene Street in downtown Augusta.
I was honored to be asked to speak. I am not a horticulturist, so I could not offer anything about gardening itself. However, I shared my knowledge of patio and exterior designs.
When you are designing your outdoor space, make a checklist on what is important to you, which could include the following.
Cooking. The guys love to grill! Whether it is hot dogs and burgers for the family, or steaks, outdoor cooking has become very popular. Gas grilles are popular as they are clean-burning and leave less to clean up when finished.

I tend to like the locally owned company Rec Tec. It is a pellet grill that you can grill or bake with!

Swimming pool. Who doesn’t love to jump in a pool on a hot day. Whether you like to swim, play water games or simply wade or float, it can be very refreshing!

A fire feature. This can be a fireplace, a fire pit or maybe even some gas lanterns. Fire always offers a nice element.

Seating. There are so many great options to consider when thinking about your seating arrangements.

It is easy to let your imagination run wild with all of the choices avaiable!
