Fall is in the air. The days are much milder and the evenings have a little chill in the air. It seems unnatural to look at our decor and see the colors of summer. The bright sunny colors don’t warm us. We want to cocoon and embrace the season.
We also tend to spend even more time outside now that the weather is more bearable. So we want to warm the exterior up on your porch or patio. This can begin with things like a fire pit that will become even more popular as fall turns to winter. Our outdoor pillows that were so colorful in the spring and summer can be swapped out for colors of browns, oranges and deep reds.

Landscape floral turns from marigolds and zinnias to ornamental cabbage and sunflowers.

Inside, again, consider your pillows and also blankets and throws. Swap pillows from summer patterns to richer, warmer colors and textures. Look for materials such as velvets, tweed or chunky knits.

Layer your decor. Add extra layers like rugs and pillows and blankets to create a more layered and cozy feel.

Gather elements from nature. Bring the outdoors in with items such as pinecones, dried pods, wheat and branches. Create seasonal arrangements. Place them into a bowl or vase or add them to your fresh floral. Add sunflowers, dried hydrangeas, pampas grass or eucalyptus stems into your decor. These can be grown in your yard and cost you nothing!

Display seasonal produce. Use pumpkins, gourds, pears and apples in a bowl on your kitchen counter.

Consider using natural, organic elements such as woven baskets or wooden containers to contain and ground your fall decor.

As I discussed before, the scent of your home is part of the whole experience. Swap out your fresh citrus candles and diffusers to more woodsy, pumpkin spice, cedarwood or cinnamon scents.
Create vignettes by arranging small groupings of some of these details on your mantel, foyer console, coffee table or kitchen island.
