Had a tasty cocktail and want to recreate it at home? A few upcoming craft cocktail classes are on the way.

“We want to teach people how to make them. There are a lot of craft cocktails being made at places like Vance’s, Edgar’s, Craft and Vine, and Pineapple Ink (Tavern). People are interested in bringing it home,” said Cara Clemmer, the bar manager at Second City Distilling Co., which has a class planned for 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, featuring Calvin Dotson of Craft and Vine.

Clemmer said Dotson will be using Second City’s in-house liquors to create his craft cocktails and that he’s kept the types of cocktails under wraps. He will be teaching attendees how to make three of his favorite cocktails.

Tickets are $50.

If you can’t make that one, Clemmer said there are plans to have classes on a monthly basis. Also, Zach McCabe of All Equal Parts has a couple of his own classes scheduled.

Zach McCabe, a Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 certified, teaches how to make nuanced cocktails such as this one called the 2020 Experience. His next workshop is scheduled for April 24. Photo courtesy of Zach McCabe/All Equal Parts.

McCabe is joining forces with Noble Jones for a workshop at 3 p.m., April 24. Participants will learn how to make two whiskey-based cocktails.

McCabe said he hopes that people will come to the workshop, then take in dinner at Noble Jones.

This will be the third craft cocktail workshop he’s done this year.

McCabe adds an educational element into a lot of his workshops, teaching people about the background of the spirits and how to find a great cocktail as opposed to a so-so one.

He’s scheduled a rum tasting for 7 p.m., May 21, at Le Chat Noir.

“People can try different types of rums, experience a rum cocktail or two,” he said.

He hopes to add more tastings and pop-up events in the future.

“I want to do some that are less formal,” he said. “I think people are looking to go out and do something a little different.”

Only a few spots remain for the April 24 class. The cost is $35. For more information, visit facebook.com/all.equal.parts.
