Trial of two in Magnolia Park homicide continues

Date: February 01, 2023

Testimony continued Tuesday and resumes Wednesday morning in the trial of two men charged with murder in the 2019 shooting death of Sanquan Sims.

Patrick L. Noble, 27, and Tony Darby, 28, hung out at the Magnolia Park apartment complex where Noble’s mother lived, a witness described Tuesday.

The pair are being tried together this week in Richmond County Superior Court with Judge Ashley Wright presiding. Each is represented by a lawyer from the Augusta Circuit Public Defender’s Office.

Opening her door at the apartment complex to see what was going on May 23, 2019, “I seen Tony shooting Quan,” the witness said. Next, “P.J. (Noble) shot (Sims) while he was already on the ground.”

Police said the afternoon slaying followed a dispute over fake narcotic pills and that Darby shot Sims first, followed by Noble.

Sims was the father of three and a T.W. Josey High School graduate who had worked in manufacturing, according to court records and prior news reports.

The Vandivere Road apartment complex is sandwiched between Damascus Road and Walden Drive in Augusta.
