The health inspection world grades a score below 70 as failing, however, no restaurants, pools or hotels received a failing score from inspections on April 21-25.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was a 70 earned by Maryland Fried Chicken, located at 12 Broad St., in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector noted observing unclean kitchen equipment, which resulted in a five point deduction
“Observed pink buildup in ice machine,” the report stated. “Observed buildup on sides and backside of cooking equipment.”
The inspector also noted witnessing food being improperly stored, resulting in an 18 point reduction.
“Observed sliced tomatoes cold-held above 41 degrees,” the report stated. “Observed cabbage hot-held below 135 degrees.”
The inspector also deducted three points from the health score for noticing ready-to-eat foods also being improperly stored.
“Observed ready-to-eat foods stored with raw meat in container,” the report stated.
The inspector also deducted three points for seeing employees prepping food without proper gear.
“Observed employee without hair and beard nets,” the report stated. “Hair and beards should be covered during active food prep.”
Lastly, the inspector noticed the building needing several repairs within the kitchen and present insect activity, which resulted in another five points being deducted.
“Observed missing ceiling tile and buildup on vents,” the report stated. “Observed flies throughout establishment.”
The second lowest score of the week was also a score of 70 given to MFC on Wheels, located at 12 Broad St., in Augusta.
The inspector noted observing present insect activity, employees not wearing proper gear for food prepping, foods improperly stored and multiple unclean surfaces within the kitchen.
The inspector’s report did not have any extensive notes.
Following the MFC on Wheels inspection, the third lowest score of the week was an 80 given to a Marco’s Pizza, located at 3513 Walton Way Ext., in Augusta.
Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported observing an employee not properly don gear before resuming food prep, which resulted in a nine point reduction.
“Observed an employee take a sip of their drink, then proceed to tomato prep station and put on gloves w/out washing their hands,” the report stated. “Employees must hands between switching activities and before prepping/cooking food.”
The inspector also noticed build up on the establishment’s wall, and deducted another point from the facility’s score.
“Observed food buildup on the walls,” the report stated. “Clean all walls especially in food prep areas. Increase cleaning frequency to limit buildup and contamination risk.”
Finally, the inspector observed a lack of necessary paperwork, and deducted another four points from the health score.
“Observed no employee health reporting agreements for the establishment. C/A: Obtain agreements for all employees. Have copies available for inspections,” the report stated.
Worst scores in this week’s health inspection
This week’s lowest health inspection score was an 85 earned by Double Tree Hotel of Augusta’s indoor pool, located at 2651 Perimeter Parkway, in Augusta.
During the inspection, the inspector deducted 15 points for the pool’s emergency phone being inoperable.
“Phone not operable; repair to be able to access local 911 system,” the report stated. “Advise placing 911 phones on separate lines (outside line was off hook; inside worked when outside put on hook.”
Following the Double Tree in Hotel of Augusta, the second lowest score of the week was another 85 given to Scottish Inn Pool, located at 1079 Stevens Creek Road, in Augusta.
Throughout the inspection, the inspector reported a pH balance too high for the pool, which resulted in a 15 point reduction.
