Two candidates qualify for Columbia County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat on day 1

Michael Carraway and Rickey Meredith have both filed to run for the Columbia County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat in the special election.

Date: February 27, 2024

Two candidates have qualified so far for the special election to fill the Columbia County Board of Commissioners District 3 seat.

Qualifying started on Monday, Feb. 26 and Michael Carraway and Rickey Merideth both filed, according to Nancy Gay, Columbia County Board of Elections executive director. Qualifying will continue through Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The special election is needed to fill the unexpired term of former commissioner Gary Richardson, who resigned so he could run for the House District 125 seat. Qualifying for the next four year term for District 3, along with other offices, will take place March 4-8.

The election will be held May 21 and only for voters in District 3.
