Two men who took part in beating a man so severely he was temporary blinded pleaded guilty Thursday, Sept. 1.

Angelo X. Allen, 36, and Tymein E. Walker, 29, each admitted they took part in a drunken attack Jan. 14, 2019 that left an Ultimate Fighting Championship contender unconscious and temporarily blind. Another defendant in the case, Harold L. Doby III, 30, is also accused of participating in the beating and of shooting the victim’s friend.

Thursday in Richmond County Superior Court, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Davis explained Walker, Allen, Doby and their friend Mylez Pvel, 36, were drinking that night at the Limelight Cafe. They had been playing with a punching machine at the bar, and at some point, Paul Dantzler approached them aggressively.

When Allen and Walker and their friends left the bar, Dantzler and his friends left a short time later, and more words were exchanged. Allen started fighting with Dantzler and was then joined by the others, Davis said. During the beating, Allen knocked down the woman who was with Dantzler that night.

When that ended and the participants split up, Doby was in his vehicle when Mark Harmon approached him and Doby shot him, the prosecutor said.

Allen pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and battery and received a seven-year probation sentence.

Allen had been on probation when the incident occurred. His probation was revoked because of the aggravated battery and battery charges, and he served three years in prison. Walker pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and was sentenced to a 10-year probation term.

Pvel pleaded guilty last September and was sentenced to five years on probation. Doby has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces. His trial is set to begin Oct. 3.
